The paper that lovingly wraps our gift boxes is actually handcrafted in Nepal from the inner bark of the Lokta Bush. The Lokta Bush, which is not a tree, has a very short regeneration time frame and therefore provides a renewable self-sustaining resource. The bush is cut 8 inches from its base and can be re-harvested in just 4 short years.

The tradition of papermaking has sustained the Nepalese hill tribes for thousands of years. The dried bark of the Lokta Bush bark is first cooked to soften the fibers, rinsed in pure Himalayan water, and then cut into small pieces. After a second cooking, the fibers are crushed on a large flat rock and mixed with pure water to form a fine paste. The mixture is then poured onto a large screen and allowed to dry in the sun, slowly and naturally. After the water has evaporated, the sheet of paper is ready to be wrapped into a beautiful gift set. Your purchase of this gift-set allows for this ancient tradition to continue.
