Extra Virgin Olive Oil
May reduce the risk of coronary heart disease
Benefits: Seagate Extra Virgin Olive Oil
containing high levels of monounsaturated fat is an
important part of a diet supporting the reduction in the
risk of coronary heart disease and the reduction of LDL
cholesterol.
Suggested Use: Take 1 to 2 capsules/day. One
softgel capsule contains 1,000 mg of olive oil, of which
800 mg is the monounsaturated fat Oleic Acid.
Qualified Health Claim: In a news release dated
November 1, 2004 the FDA announced the following
“qualified health claim” for olive oil consumption –
“Limited and not conclusive scientific evidence suggests
that eating about 2 tablespoons (23 grams) of olive oil
daily may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease due
to the monounsaturated fat in olive oil.” While taking
more than 1 to 2 capsules/day suggested use would be
beneficial, this would be true only if you were
replacing an equal amount of saturated fat and not
increasing the total amount of calories consumed each
day. Consuming one gram (1000 mg) of any oil whether it
is olive oil, or from a source of saturated animal fat,
provides 10 calories. Therefore, consuming the 23
grams/day suggested by the FDA without reducing an equal
amount of saturated fat (animal fat) would add 230
calories to your diet and cause you to gain weight.
Processing: Seagate employees hand-select their
olives for the extra virgin oil production and olive
leaves for their extract production from local olive
groves. Extra Virgin Olive Oil is subjected to a minimal
amount of processing. Seagate utilizes modern stainless
steel hydraulic presses to produce this oil that is free
of chemicals and solvents.
Composition: One 1000 mg capsule contains: 800 mg
of monounsaturated fat, which is almost entirely
composed of Oleic Acid; plus 5 mg natural Vitamin E
added for antioxidant stability; 5 mg of Omega-3
(Linoleic Acid); and 190 mg of saturated and
polyunsaturated fats that are naturally-occurring in
olive oil.
Convenience: Seagate Extra Virgin Olive Oil in
softgel capsules is an easy way to increase the
consumption of monounsaturated fatty acids without the
need to taste the oil or add it to a meal.
